Welcome to the Hazardous and Noxious Substances and Oil Reporting System.

If you receive or export large amounts of certain hazardous and noxious substances or oil in bulk by sea, Canadian law requires you to file an annual information return. The amount of product you report:

  • can be used to calculate future contributions to the Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund
  • will help determine the total contribution the Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund pays to the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds
  • will also determine any future contributions to the International Hazardous and Noxious Substances Fund, when this Fund comes into force

These funds are available to pay claims of loss or damage caused by marine pollution.

This self-reporting system makes it easy for you to file your reports.
